Philip Claverie is the honorary consul of Finland in New Orleans. His jurisdiction covers Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

As honorary consul, Claverie is striving to strengthen the economic and cultural ties between Finland and the three states, to increase tourism among its citizens, and to assist resident and visiting Finns in the area. He also hopes to increase the visibility of Finnish industries, including design and furniture manufacturing, heavy equipment manufacturing and technology. Claverie serves on the President's Council of Finlandia University.

New Orleans is one of the most important port cities in the United States. Claverie also seeks to increase maritime commerce between the areas. A In addition, Finland´s flagship corporation, Nokia, is the lead sponsor of the Sugar Bowl, one of the crown jewels of American college athletics.

Claverie is a senior partner of Phelps Dunbar, LLP, a 235-attorney law firm with offices in Lousiana, Mississippi, Texas and Florida. He is a graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School, Princeton University and Tulane Law School. He is a business transactions lawyer who has been named to the Best Lawyers in America and Who´s Who in America, and is ranked 1st in Louisiana in banking and finance by Chambers USA. He is a former chairman of the board of Children´s Hospital and Isidore Newman School, both in New Orleans. He currently serves on the executive board of the New Orleans Police Foundation, and the World Affairs Council of New Orleans.

He is married to the former Laura McCampbell of Alexandria, Louisiana. She is in charge of media relations for New Orleans Tourism Marketing and edits www.NewOrleansOnline.com. They have two children, Philip, Jr., an attorney at Phelps, Dunbar, LLP, and Stephanie, an annual gifts officer at Planned Parenthood. Both reside in New Orleans.
